Between the red bricks and green tiles, the century-old medical teachings shine brightly; along the path of apricot groves (a metaphor for medicine) across the four seas, a journey of benevolence spanning thousands of miles begins. On the morning of June 23, the 2025 Graduation Ceremony and Degree Conferral Ceremony of Sun Yat-sen Medical School was held at the Alumni Hall of Building 5 on the North Campus, with two concurrent branch venues. The ceremony was hosted by Secretary Hao Yajuan.

Before the official start, graduates presented carefully prepared performances, expressing the passion, memories, and friendships of medical students: A Friend Like You delivered warm farewells to the years gone by; Never Give Up pulsated with fearless declarations; Time Flies Like a Song flowed like a river of time. This prologue performed by youth infused the solemn ceremony with sincere warmth.

Vice Secretary Chen Baoyu delivered a lecture on integrity education, encouraging graduates to uphold the foundation of integrity and contribute their youthful strength to China's modernization drive.
The graduation ceremony kicked off with the solemn playing of the national anthem. Dean Kuang Ming, on behalf of the school, congratulated the 2025 graduates of Sun Yat-sen Medical School on embarking on a new chapter of life and a great journey of safeguarding life and health!

How should one navigate the road ahead? Dean Kuang Ming addressed all graduates in his speech titled Marching Forward in the Light of Life, revealing the "three special identities" bestowed by the medical profession:

1. Practitioners with a global vision and the courage to be pioneers. He hoped graduates would integrate the spirit of "great doctors with sincere dedication" into their professional ethics, making "healers' benevolence" the warmest background of society.
2. Explorers who change the present and create the future. He reminded students to maintain curiosity and sensitivity toward new technologies, embrace changes actively, and keep learning and exploring.
3. Guardians who are always warm and reverent. "We are humans, not machines. No matter what career path you choose, please remember the oath 'Health entrusted, life committed', and let every life feel warmth and hope."

Sun Yat-sen University was founded by Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the great national hero, patriot, and pioneer of China's democratic revolution. At the graduation ceremony, Professor Li Mingtao read Dr. Sun Yat-sen's graduation instruction, and all graduates responded in unison, "We will strictly follow the teachings."
The journey of medicine begins with an oath. Professor Yan Guangmei led all graduates in reciting the Hippocratic Oath for medical students.

Student Representatives' Speeches
Liu Jiajun, an undergraduate graduate from the 2020 Clinical Medicine (5-year program), spoke as the undergraduate representative:"At this moment of parting, as my gaze sweeps across the familiar figures in bachelor's gowns in the Alumni Hall, I truly feel the weight of farewell. I believe that no matter where we end up in the future, we will all remember the red bricks and green tiles of No. 74 Zhongshan Second Road, the flower-lined path in front of the library, and the classrooms, laboratories, and wards where we struggled together. May we all stay true to our original aspirations, never forget our mission, shine in our respective fields, and become the pride of Sun Yat-sen Medical School!"
Huang Jing, a direct PhD student from the 2020 Elite Training Program in Basic Medicine, spoke as the graduate student representative:"Looking back on my five-year PhD journey, I have gained not only professional knowledge and research skills but also the ideal and pursuit of becoming a medical scientist with learning ability, thinking ability, and action ability. As President Gao Song said, 'The new era urgently needs a larger-scale and higher-quality team of innovative talents, and learning ability, thinking ability, and action ability are the core competencies of innovative talents.' This will be my direction for moving forward."

Teacher Representative's Speech
Professor Xiang Qiuling, a renowned teacher of Sun Yat-sen University, spoke as the teacher representative:
"As a teacher and also a senior 师姐，I would like to leave you three pieces of advice at this farewell moment. Firstly, find your inner passion, and I believe each of you will find it and strive for it. Secondly, maintain the ability of lifelong learning to stand firm in the ever-changing tide of medicine. Lastly, and most importantly, keep your body and mind healthy."

Alumni Representative's Speech
Professor Zhan Hong, chief physician of the Emergency Department at the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, spoke as the alumni representative:
"Looking back 44 years ago, we took the solemn oath 'Health entrusted, life committed' with reverence and longing for medicine. In the blink of an eye, you, full of youth and vitality, are about to embark on a new life journey. I believe that under the guidance of teachers and scholars, you will uphold the school motto 'Study extensively, inquire carefully, think deeply, discriminate clearly, and practice earnestly', and grow into 'creative talents with excellent learning ability, thinking ability, and action ability, capable of leading the future'."

Degree Conferral

Vice Dean Zhou Jiaguo read out the decision of Sun Yat-sen University on conferring bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees.

Dean Kuang Ming led the graduates in the hat tassel turning ceremony and awarded degree certificates to each graduate one by one.

Presentation of Class Councilor Appointments
"Scattered, we are stars in the sky; united, we are a blazing fire." Vice Secretary Chen Baoyu and Professor Yang Xia, executive director of the School Alumni Center, presented appointment letters to class councilors, hoping they would maintain close ties with fellow students and continue to care for and support the school's development.
The graduation ceremony concluded with the collective singing of the Sun Yat-sen University Anthem and Sun Yat-sen Medical School Anthem.

Together, we grew from ignorance to maturity, from fledglings to individuals capable of taking on responsibilities. Now, the world lies before us.
We came from all corners of the country and will go to all parts of the world. Sun Yat-sen Medical School will always be in our hearts, and "saving people, saving the nation, saving the world; healing diseases, healing the body, healing the soul" will be our shared mark.
